I will return with a post that is more specific about, for example, how I experience SharePoint when it comes to file sharing and features such as RSS, blogs and wikis.Oscar Berghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13364324951599654650noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8662858581791799812.post-59543564804400087432008-05-01T10:31:00.000+01:002008-05-01T10:31:00.000+01:00For file sharing, I believe even simple tools like...For file sharing, I believe even simple tools like Google Groups are better than SharePoint. It is easy to upload files and make them available to users with just a few clicks. And if Google Docs had been equipped with the editing capabilities of the Microsoft Office applications (which still are superior), there would be no MS Office no more.Oscar Berghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13364324951599654650noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8662858581791799812.post-15200369099062716202008-04-30T20:14:00.000+01:002008-04-30T20:14:00.000+01:00Oscar,Can you elaborate more, maybe by using some ...Oscar,

Can you elaborate more, maybe by using some examples, to expand on the following statement?

"If file sharing is the strength of Sharepoint when it comes to collaboration, then anyone having thougths about using Sharepoint for collaboration should seriously reconsider. There are simply much more simple and convenient ways to share files than using SharePoint. SharePoint is more about file storing than file sharing."

Tell us more about your specific experience and what pieces made this particularily difficult? You say, "A bad thing is that it underperforms in more or less all areas and that a lot of custom development is required to make it perform." but don't really tell us why.Adamhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15903797307279540970noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8662858581791799812.post-17813446251478906442008-04-30T17:56:00.000+01:002008-04-30T17:56:00.000+01:00Hi Oscar,As an admin I've plenty of complaints abo...Hi Oscar,
As an admin I've plenty of complaints about sharepoint, but you mention there are many products better suited for the file sharing. Please name some.
As for not being able to access sharepoint from any computer with internet access- if you publish sharepoint to an extranet site, this is pretty much how it works- it's how we use it. You lose a lot of the intended office integration this way, but base functionality is still there.Shttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05580667494323261099noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8662858581791799812.post-64507126559368716362008-04-29T00:14:00.000+01:002008-04-29T00:14:00.000+01:00Oscar,Thanks for sharing your ideas above.
